Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility
Washington State SHRM is committed to creating a culture of inclusivity where seen and unseen differences are valued and celebrated. We are building a foundation, taking small but thoughtful actions that will have a long-term impact on our HR community. How do I do DEI? How do I fix DEI? I feel like an imposter. These are just a few questions and statements we hear. We're individuals with a shared interest in learning, and we are passionate about this work. DEI is truly a collaborative undertaking, and those of us who lead this effort must approach it from a place of humility with a willingness to learn. Our role as DEI leaders is to amplify all voices and hold space for learning and understanding. DEI is not the icing you put on a cake. It’s an ingredient that must be baked into the cake. Just like DEI shouldn’t only be HR’s responsibility, but an integral part of your organization’s strategy and embedded throughout your organization. We will collaborate with our fellow CLAs to increase our reach and impact. There will be no grandiose statements without actionable steps. We won’t build a plan and tell people what we’re going to do. We will listen, make incremental and sustainable changes.
